Collecting Marketing Permission on the Guest Waiver App
Overview
Clubs that wish to may treat collection of marketing consent differently for SMS versus Email in the Guest Waiver app. Previously, a single “Request Marketing Permission” setting controlled collection of marketing consent for both channels. A release in October 2026 now splits that into independent Email and SMS controls.

Setting: Request marketing permission for Email
Settings: Separate Default Opt In settings for SMS and Email
Previously, a single setting called "Default to Opt In" was available for the Guest Waiver app that applied to the collection of marketing consent for both SMS and Email. The October 2026 release now separates that into two separate settings so your business can decide how to treat consent collection for each channel.
If "Request marketing permission for email" is checked (your club wants to ask for permission rather than assume it), a secondary setting becomes available: "Default Opt In (Email)". This setting controls whether the consent checkbox is pre-checked for the user when they are providing their email address.
- Default Opt In (Email): If this setting is checked (enabled), the consent checkbox on the email step is pre-checked for users. If the user makes no changes (they do not uncheck the box), they will be opted in to receive email; if they uncheck the box, they will be opted out.
- Default to Opt In (SMS): Requesting permission to send SMS is not a configurable setting, and will always be included in the mobile number step. There is a setting Default to Opt In (SMS) which lets your business decide whether the marketing consent checkbox will be prechecked for users on the SMS/mobile number step. This behaves similarly to the Default to Opt In (Email) setting mentioned above: If the setting is checked (enabled), the consent checkbox on the SMS step is pre-checked for users. If the user makes no changes (they do not uncheck the box), they will be opted in to receive SMS; if they uncheck the box, they will be opted out.
